Western Australia-Korea Business Forum

-

In celebration of the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Australia and the Republic of Korea this year, the Australia-Korea Business Council, in collaboration with the Australia-Korea Foundation in the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade are hosting a Western Australia-Korea Business Forum on Tuesday 17 August 2021 in Perth CBD. The event will be held from 8.30AM – 11.00AM (AWST) and is supported by the Government of Western Australia.

The purpose of this event is to bring together approximately 80 executives active in the Western Australia–Korea relationship to build business and government networks, gain a deeper understanding of government and business priorities and provide a platform to explore further bilateral cooperation. The focus of the event will be on business opportunities between Western Australia and Korea.

Korea is Australia’s fourth largest trading partner and Western Australia’s fourth most valuable goods export market. In the 2020 calendar year, Korea was a significant importer of Western Australia’s iron ore, petroleum, precious metal ore, wheat, nickel ore and copper ore. Over the years, Korean firms have invested significantly in Western Australia, and with demand for renewable energy increasing at an unprecedented level globally, further investment from South Korea is set to increase. Recent partnerships in the critical minerals sector, such as the partnerships betwen POSCO with Pilbara Minerals, Black Rock Mining and Galaxy Resources demonstrate Korea’s strong appetite to secure raw materials and supply chains. The opportunities for engagement with South Korea are increasing, and we hope you can join us for a discussion about how we can work together to promote these opportunities.
