Financial Services and Investment

Australia and Korea are strengthening financial and investment ties as both countries seek to expand capital partnerships, support energy transition, and unlock long-term growth opportunities across strategic industries. Korea is Australia’s fourth-largest trading partner, yet it remains only Australia’s 20th-largest foreign investor, highlighting the significant untapped potential for deeper bilateral investment. Korean investment in Australia has almost tripled over the past decade, increasing from approximately A$12.8 billion in 2011 to A$28.3 billion in 2024, while Australian investment in Korea reached approximately A$29.6 billion in 2024.

Australia continues to attract strong interest from Korean institutional investors, pension funds, securities firms, and financial institutions seeking stable, long-term investment opportunities across infrastructure, energy, real estate, technology, and future industries. At the same time, Australian companies and asset managers are increasingly engaging with Korean capital markets and institutional investors. As both countries accelerate decarbonisation and energy transition initiatives, there are growing opportunities across sustainable finance, clean energy investment, infrastructure financing, green bonds, and strategic investment partnerships.

AKBC maintains close relationships with key Korean financial and investment stakeholders, including the Korea Financial Investment Association (KOFIA), Export-Import Bank of Korea (KEXIM), Korea Trade Insurance Corporation (K-SURE), institutional investors, securities firms, and financial institutions. This sector connects members with investors, policymakers, financial institutions, and industry leaders across both countries, supporting opportunities across investment attraction, capital partnerships, infrastructure financing, energy transition investment, and broader Australia-Korea commercial engagement.
