Michael Helleman, Head of Energy and New Energy Technologies (a/g) at Austrade, recently spoke with H2 View to discuss Australia’s hydrogen future.
In the last year, there have been several important announcements regarding hydrogen in Australia, such as Australia’s National Hydrogen Strategy and funding from the Australian Renewable Energy Agency. Mr Helleman said that “the pace of announcements…reflects the fundamental strengths of the Australian hydrogen opportunity.”
Investment and projects which demonstrate commercial viability will be crucial next steps for the sector. Therefore, Austrade will focus on supporting projects and investors “by providing market insights and assistance in identifying partnership opportunities.”
Mr Helleman remarked that Korea has “made ambitious commitments to transition to a hydrogen [economy] and signalled they will be significant importers from 2030.” Australia is well-positioned as a proven energy partner to support Korea’s transition and AKBC is committed to enabling our members to benefit from the numerous opportunities for hydrogen collaboration in the Australia-Korea corridor.
