AKBC member Hanwha Defense Australia (HDA) was announced today as the preferred supplier of the Australia Defence Force’s Protected Mobile Fires project. HDA will build and maintain 30 self-propelled howitzers and 15 armoured ammunition resupply vehicles and their supporting systems for the Australian Army.
The Request for Tender is a significant opportunity to deepen Australia-Korea defence ties as HDA is committed to expanding Australia’s defence industry. HDA has confirmed that the vehicles will be built in a new facility in the Geelong region, creating up to 350 highly skilled, local jobs and further opportunities for employment in areas such as warehousing and transport.
Minister for Defence, Senator the Hon Linda Reynolds CSC, stated that “the acquisition of this capability will provide the ADF with the mobility, lethality and protection required to support Joint Force operations in the land domain.”
Richard Cho, Managing Director of HDA, remarked that “this is a tremendous outcome for our company and we very much appreciate the Commonwealth placing their trust in Hanwha for this opportunity.”
