[Australian Embassy in Korea] Promoting Australia as a destination of choice to study English

The Australian Embassy in Korea is promoting Australian English as part of their public diplomacy efforts to encourage Korean students to study in Australia. The Embassy recently co-hosted an online English speaking competition for elementary, middle and high school Korean students. Mr James Bourne, Second Secretary (Economic) at the Embassy, was one of the competition’s judges and described the students’ English skills as on par with Australian students in terms of style, presentation and their ability to express their views.

Mr Bourne stated that “Australia wants to make [it] clear to Koreans we should be the destination of choice for people who want to study English language.” He also discussed that Australia is more than just a study destination – students experience Australia’s unique lifestyle. Australians are also increasingly eager to learn about Korean culture, providing an excellent opportunity to form meaningful people-to-people connections.
