Simon has taken on a number of leadership roles in his career spanning 25 years across Big 4 accounting firms and financial services firms.
Simon spent 12 years in Korea between 2000 and 2012. Prior to returning to Australia in 2013, Simon was a Group Chief Risk Officer at a publicly listed financial services group in Korea, where he was responsible for overseeing the operational, financial and compliance risk of its group of various subsidiaries,
including the general insurance, securities, asset management, and group IT services businesses. Prior to taking on the Group CRO role, Simon was the Senior Vice President of the general insurance business of the Group, and was head of internal audit. In that role, he was responsible for ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements over the company’s sales activities, particularly dealing with customers.
Before Simon crossed over to the financial services industry, Simon was a Partner at EY Korea between 2004 and 2009. Prior to leaving EY, Simon was the Managing Partner with overall management responsibilities for the Advisory Services practice at EY Korea, which had over 140 consultants with 6 subservice line partners.
Simon is passionate about promoting trade and investment between Australia and Korea. With the ratification of Korea Australia Free Trade Agreement, Simon feels that with the experience he has had in the two countries, it is his duty and responsibility to ensure the benefits from KAFTA is maximised and full potential is reached in the bilateral relationship.
Simon attained Bachelor of Economics from Macquarie University, Masters of Risk Management from the University of NSW, and is a chartered accountant.
