[Partner Event, Melbourne: ‘Peace Economy’ and economic opportunities between Australia and North Korea]
The University of Melbourne’s Asia Institute presents an ‘In Conversation’ event with Dr Jay Song, Convenor of Korean Studies at the Asia Institute, and Dr Jin-hyang Kim, President of Kaesong Industrial Complex Foundation and former member of the Korean National Security Council. The Kaesong Industrial Complex is a joint economic initiative between North Korea and South Korea and closed in 2016 under Park Geun-Hye’s administration following nuclear tests by the North.
The event will explore whether the ‘Peace Economy’ is currently feasible and the key security issues for businesses given the pro-engagement policies of South Korea and the stalemated negotiations between North Korea and America. Dr Kim will also discuss current and future economic opportunities with North Korea and potential opportunities that Australian businesses may explore, particularly in tourism, mining and property.
