[Member Introduction] Hanwha Defense Australia

The Australia-Korea Business Council is thrilled to introduce our new member, Hanwha Defense Australia.

Hanwha is a Global Fortune 500 Company from Korea. It roughly equates in size to the combined resources of BHP and Telstra. Korea is Australia’s fourth largest trading partner and Hanwha is the second largest importer of Australian goods in Korea.

Hanwha Group’s major divisions are;

  • Manufacturing and Construction,
  • Finance,
  • Service and Leisure,

Hanwha Defense Corporation (HDC) is the largest military contractor in South Korea. It is an armoured vehicle design house, with over 40 years of experience, manufacturing thousands of vehicles. Hanwha’s capabilities are directly applicable to the Australian Defence Force (ADF). Given the increasing bi-lateral defence and national security synergies between Australia and Korea, Hanwha Defense Australia (HDA) PTY LTD has been established. Headquartered in Melbourne, HDA is rapidly growing its presence and capability to compete for, win and execute the Australian Army’s largest and most important programs. These are huge multi-decade programs and include combat vehicles for both LAND 8116 Protected Mobility Fires and LAND 400, Phase 3 Infantry Close Combat Mounted capability.

Hanwha plans to expand as a competitive Tier 1 Company in Australia to increase regional resilience between both nations and to turbo-charge Australian advanced manufacturing capacity, especially in Victoria where our advanced manufacturing centre of excellence will be established. Hanwha is working hard to ensure maximum IP transfer to Australia and to localize a range of key technologies. The company is committed to Australian industrial engagement and has already met with more than 400 talented Australian small to medium enterprises with a view to selecting its industry partners for both domestic and global opportunities.
