21 Sep Korea – Level 2 social distancing extended
On Sunday, the Korean government announced an extension of level 2 social distancing nationwide until September 27.
Today, Korea recorded its second consecutive day of under 100 cases for the first time in more than a month.
With the upcoming holidays for the Chuseok harvest festival and National Foundation Day weekend between September 30 and October 4, authorities are hoping daily cases will remain in the double-digits.
Rep. Lee Nak-yon, Chairman of the ruling Democratic Party, said that “the Chuseok holiday and National Foundation Day will be critical moments,” urging people to “refrain from traveling to hometowns and popular tourism spots.”
Under level 2 social distancing, restaurants and shops can remain open if they implement virus control measures and schools must limit the number of students attending in-person. Gatherings of 50 or more people indoors and 100 or more people outdoors are prohibited.
